Anxiety Disorders

  • Anxiety Disorders: 
    • What: A group of disorders that cause extreme fear, dread, and out of proportion distress 
      • Anxiety interferences with your ability to function in day to day situations 
    • Types: 
      • Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Constant feeling of being overwhelmed; excessive and unrealistic worry about everyday things 
      •  Agoraphobia: Intense fear of being unable to escape or get help; Avoiding new places and unfamiliar situations. 
      • Panic Disorder: Panic attacks that happen without warning that aren’t due to other mental or physical conditions.
      • Specific Phobias:  A phobia that causes fear or anxiety to the point that it disrupts your daily life.
      • Social Anxiety Phobias: Intense and ongoing fear of being judged/ watched by others
      • Separation Anxiety Disorder:  Excessive anxiety when losing a loved one; can affect children and adults.
      • Selective Mutism: Not talking in certain situations due to fear or anxiety; can affect young children, adolescents, and adults
